Blackberry's Browser Battles

This is my very first post to this blog and unlike many other opening posts, this one will be short and sweet.

The Blackberry browser. What a piece. Don't get me wrong, I've had my 8330 for around 6 months now and it is already the best phone that I have ever owned. I will rave about the phone's features for days on end to both my family and friends. But the browser options are just not that great on the Blackberry.

One of the first things I did when I received my 8330, was to install my Google apps because, like everyone else in the world, I gave them my soul when 1GB of storage was first offered in GMail beta. I quickly realized that Google Reader wasn't going to be a very enjoyable experience. The browser can take ages to render and even when it does, sometimes it will leave half of the page off. Then I tried Opera Mini and although it offered more complete, mobile browsing, scrolling became a major pain.

Now, maybe some Bold owners can comment and let me know what they think of the updated version because word from RIM is that the browser has improved. I have yet to get my hands on one to test. But I also want to ask this - why are the browser options so limited on the Blackberry platform? Recently, I was testing out Skyfire on an HTC Touch with WinMo 6.1 and was really impressed with it. I was able to watch a football game in Hi-Res without hardly any problems. I'm also excited for the release of Fennec, Mozilla's mobile browser.

Fellow Blackberry users, let me know what you think!
